Copyright remains with the original copyright holder., the Marbella Club Hotel Golf Resort & Spa in the Southern Coast of Spain, in association with title sponsorVeuve Clicquot, will welcome the Spring Games. The annual event consists of six sports completed in one day. Varying by year, activities include; Skiing in Sierra Nevada, Polo in Soto Grande, motor racing at an exclusive race track in Ronda, golf at the hotel's course overlooking North Africa, clay shooting and water skiing on the shores of the Mediterranean and paddle tennis.
The hotel's accomplished party and sport loving founder, Prince Alfonso Hohenlohe, came up with the idea in the 1960s. Inspired by the notion that few places in the world allow its visitors to both
alpine ski and swim in the sea in the same day, he envisioned the Spring Games. In 2010, Pablo Hohenlohe, Prince Alonso's nephew resurrected his dream with the Marbella Club Spring Games.
Those who did not make the cut off to participate in this year's games need not fret; the hotel has recently launched a Spring Games Concierge. Guests can now organize their own version of the event depending on their interests and adrenaline levels. Those with a truly competitive spirit can apply to participate in next year's event.
"It is a unique event in a unique destination," says Franck Sibille, Area General Manager of the Marbella Club Hotel. "Sporting and social events are an important part of the hotel's rich heritage. We are thrilled to continue the tradition and proud to show the world why Marbella is truly special."
Each event is timed individually so that the sum of points determines the champion. The day ends with a celebratory dinner at the Marbella Club's famed Grill Restaurant. The victor will be announced the following day when 200 guests, aficionados and media come together to celebrate at the Marbella Club´s illustrious Villa del Mar. Guests will dine, dance and bid on sports paraphernalia signed by famous sports idols. Proceeds will be donated to "Fundacion Deporte y Desafio", an organization that helps physically disabled participate in sports and the Spanish Cancer Association.
